CHOOSE A TEAM

DAISY'S DANE SANCTUARY (BLACK TEAM)

Daisy’s Dane Sanctuary is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned, neglected and owner-surrendered Great Danes of all ages. We advocate responsible Great Dane breed ownership and promote breed kindness through education and example.

FIREFLY'S WILDLIFE RESCUE (FOREST GREEN TEAM)

Firefly’s Wildlife Rescue exists to care for injured, orphaned, and displaced native wildlife while helping people live alongside the animals that share our landscapes. Through ethical rehabilitation, education, and rural outreach, we bridge gaps in wildlife care and access, supporting both healthy ecosystems and strong communities. Our work is rooted in compassion, coexistence, and long-term, habitat-focused solutions that allow wildlife—and the people who care about them—to thrive.

LUCKY 13 RESCUE (TURQUOISE TEAM)

Lucky 13 Rescue is a federal 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the rescue and aid of homeless and neglected dogs in the Kansas City metro and surrounding rural areas. We do not limit our efforts to a specific breed, but rather strive to assist any dog that is facing neglect, homelessness, abuse or death. Our ultimate goal is to rehabilitate each canine in our care through placement in loving foster homes until they can be carefully matched with adoptive families.

MADE A PROMISE RESCUE (LIGHT PURPLE)

Made a Promise Rescue exists to care for dogs without homes and guide them toward the right forever family. We believe in intentional matches, thoughtful placement, and honoring the promise we made to advocate for dogs who deserve the right home, not just any home.

MELISSA'S SECOND CHANCES (ROYAL BLUE TEAM)

After a lifetime of working in animal shelters and caring for animals Melissa decided she wanted to try it her own way! We opened in January of 2019 and have hit the ground running. Melissa’s Second Chances is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal shelter located in Shawnee, KS. We strive to help find homes and safe refuge for animals in need of a second chance at being a beloved family pet.

PAWSITIVE TAILS DOG RESCUE (NAVY TEAM)

Pawsitive Tails strives to be something different in the animal adoption community. We help dogs and puppies find new homes by matching the right dog to the right family.

Pawsitive Tails is a not for profit organization focused on finding forever homes for dog and puppies in the Kansas City area and Topeka. We are not a shelter and we do not have a facility – all the dogs in our program live in loving foster homes. We take dogs into our homes and care for them as if they were our own until they go to their forever homes. The time we spend with them helps us to learn more about each of them which allows us to be able to provide applicants with an accurate assessment and the dog’s individual strengths and needs.

We are for the dogs who need help now, educate the public to protect dogs of the future, allow dogs to give back as they do best – with their whole hearts, and we accomplish each stage with a sense of humor.

PRAIRIE PAWS ANIMAL SHELTER (PURPLE TEAM)

Prairie Paws Animal Shelter’s Mission Statement is to provide compassionate care and placement for animals in need.

Prairie Paws Animal Shelter is a private, no kill, 501 (c)(3), non-profit shelter, founded over 70 years ago by Beatrice Martin Peck. Through the tireless efforts of our staff and volunteers Prairie Paws Animal Shelter is dedicated to carrying out the following actions:

  • Give aid and comfort to the homeless shelter animals
  • Educate the community in responsible pet ownership
  • Help reunite pets with owners by offering low cost microchipping
  • Provide pet adoptions
  • Create a safer community

Our Founder Beatrice Martin Peck began advocating for the welfare of Franklin County’s homeless animals in the early 1940’s and continued to do so until her death in 1967. She founded the Franklin County Humane Society in 1946 and, through her own expense and effort, founded what was known as the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter on the 25 of March 1947. The building was completed in 1948. Beatrice and her group of faithful supporters investigated reports of cruelty towards animals in the community, housed and cared for animals needing assistance, and established an adoption program for the community-all the while creating a living legacy that remains today. Prior to her efforts, the stray or otherwise unwanted animals were used for medical testing and had no voice. Beatrice’s efforts led to the enactment of many ordinances and regulations regarding animal care that remain today.

The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter is still a private, non-profit shelter operating by the same philosophy under which it was established over 50 years ago through the tireless efforts of its staff and volunteers. Prairie Paws Animal Shelter will never euthanize for space and all animals are given a second chance at finding their perfect families. A new facility was built in 2010 at 3173 HWY K 68, Ottawa, KS 66067. The old facility stood at 230 W 19th St. Ottawa, KS 66067.

THE ANIMAL RESCUE ALLIANCE (TARA) (PINK)

TARA’s Mission Statement

• To rescue, rehabilitate, re-home or transfer homeless or unwanted pets.

• To educate the public and prospective pet owners on responsible pet ownership.

• To reduce pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering all pets and encouraging others to do the same.

THE RESCUE PROJECT (YELLOW)

The Rescue Project is 100% volunteer run, 501c3 non-profit, animal rescue dedicated to improving the lives of animals in and around Kansas City’s most underserved communities through our community outreach program. In addition, we are a foster based group with hundreds of foster homes in and around the Kansas City metro. ALL animals in our program reside in these foster homes as we do not have a shelter or physical location. We focus on providing the absolute best care with our vet partners as well as behavioral trainers so animals are ready for their forever home. We fully screen all applicants to ensure all pets adopted from TRP are getting their best possible chance at a wonderful home and future. Donations made to The Rescue Project go directly to support animals right here in our community. Our dedication to remaining completely volunteer operated and foster based ensures every dollar gets where it is needed the most.

UNLEASHED PET RESCUE & ADOPTION (LIGHT GRAY TEAM)

Unleashed Pet Rescue is a licensed, non-profit animal shelter founded in 2011 by Danielle Reno.  Unleashed works to save the lives of homeless pets and strives to improve the image of bully breeds in our society.

We work daily with local high kill shelters throughout the area to pull “unwanted” pets to safety. We rescue animals from awful situations and bring them into safety. We recently have started doing outreach in the greater KCK area, to provide food and warmth to animals in need. We work to find homes for pets of all ages, health, temperaments, and history. Each adoptable pet is given the opportunity to thrive.

We are proud to say that we have created an organization that is no-kill and we will not euthanize any animal due to overcrowding. As with most other shelters throughout the nation, there is never enough space to fill the need. Because of this we partner with foster homes throughout Kansas City that help us provide a safe, comfortable situation for our pets until they can find their forever homes.

Unleashed Pet Rescue has been able to thrive because of our incredibly compassionate staff, as well as from the support of donations and marvelous volunteers. When a pet comes into our care, we know that they will be shown love and attention while they wait for their forever family.

Thousands of animals come through our doors each year. We receive no state or federal funding, meaning we rely entirely upon donations to cover our daily operating expenses. Every day our team works hard to providing a safe environment for animals throughout Kansas City.
